Office 365 Mobile Device Report

The importance of mobility in the workplace has grown in recent years, driven by technological innovations like smartphones, tablets and lots of web-based applications. Now employees require their IT departments to enable access for the mobile devices so they can work whenever and wherever they want.

With this new push for mobility there are also challenges with respect to security for connecting these devices to company content repositories and communication networks. Organizations need to closely monitor how users are leveraging these mobile devices to communicate and collaborate. The primary challenge with monitoring and reporting for mobile devices is the variety of platforms like iOS, Android, Windows, etc., plus the variety of devices like tablets and phones of varying configurations.

To help IT administrations stay in control of their Office 365 environment and closely monitor end-user access from mobile devices, we have enabled a new report which shows a list of all devices registered on Azure AD. This is an initial version of the report, but it contains useful information such as OS name, OS version, and Machine Name. This will be extended to include Registered Owner in the near future and will publish this information in other portal reports.

CoreView’s new mobile device report helps IT admins keep track of all the Office 365 ActiveSync-enabled devices in their environment, so they can make better decisions when controlling settings, managing permissions, and monitoring security policies. As more organizations have implemented “bring your own device” policies, these type of reports have become extremely valuable.

These reports can also be added to the ‘Favorite Report’ area by clicking on the star icon close the report name. This enables quick and easy access under the ‘Analyze’ tab once you have logged into the portal.

In the top right corner of the table you can also adjust the time interval for the data items shown in the report. By using the drop-down picklist: yesterday, 7, 14, 30, 60 or 90 days, or some custom range, it is possible to filter the information quickly to see only the date range that fits your reporting needs.
