Why It’s Important to Identify Empty Teams Groups
Keeping your Microsoft 365 environment tidy is essential—not only for easier management but also to optimize storage and licensing. Empty Teams groups, with no owners or members, often indicate obsolete spaces that can be safely removed. Below are the updated methods for identifying and deleting empty Teams groups.
Method 1: Locate Empty Teams Groups Using Teams Admin Center
In the left menu, select Teams > Manage teams. Here you’ll see a list of all Teams groups within your tenant.
Navigate to Settings and enable the missing elements to view Teams owners, members, and guests directly in the “Manage teams” page.
For larger environments: click on the “Export” option to get the details into an Excel file. In Excel, you can find the Teams where both “Teams owners” and “Teams members” are 0. These can be considered as empty groups.
After you've checked the groups, you can delete them from the Teams admin center.
Method 2: Discover Empty Teams Groups with CoreView
