The HALO Trust is the world’s largest humanitarian mine clearance organisation. The HALO Trust saves lives and restores communities threatened by landmines and other weapons of war, such as cluster bombs, stockpiles of small arms and improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
Born out of a desire to help the people of Afghanistan in 1988, they now employ an international staff of over 8,000 including the UK headquarters, USA office and programmes in 36 countries and territories.
With high volumes of temporary staff, there was a significant overhead in creating, updating, and de-provisioning user accounts. Manual handling of these processes consumed valuable IT resources and introduced risks of delay or oversight.
Without full visibility into how M365 licenses were being used, The Halo Trust risked over provisioning and underutilisation of resources, leading to unnecessary costs.
The organisation required a balance between central IT governance and local autonomy. In country teams needed to be empowered to manage day-to-day operations, while central IT maintained oversight and security.
“The expansion of our underlying Microsoft licensed estate is a core component of HALO’s Technology Strategy and deploying Coreview technology has allowed us to delegate responsibility, whilst maintaining full control and improving visibility. Cyber Vigilance were really engaged from the start, helping us find a commercial model that worked and then working closely with my technical teams to manage deployment and training. We had CoreView operational within weeks and deployed into our Ukrainian operations soon after, adding real value in very challenging conditions”
The solution addressed their challenges in the following ways:
CoreView’s automation capabilities streamlined Joiner, Mover, and Leaver processes. This ensured accounts were created, updated, and removed quickly and accurately, reducing the burden on central IT and improving security.
With CoreView’s advanced reporting, The Halo Trust gained complete visibility into license allocation and usage. This allowed them to right-size licensing, cut unnecessary costs, and maximize the value of their Microsoft 365 investment.
CoreView’s delegation features empowered local teams to manage operations independently, while ensuring central IT retained full visibility and control. This improved responsiveness and efficiency incountry, without compromising governance.
- Reduced the IT overhead of managing a complex and fluid workforce.
- Optimised M365 licensing to minimise spend and reduce waste.
- Empowered in-country teams while maintaining centralised control and security.
